Professional Summary
Dr. Joey Francis Hernandez (Joey) is an early-career Filipino public health professional based in Manila. He has 9 years of experience in various technical and operational domains of public health practice, including project implementation and management, program evaluation, policy development as applied in tuberculosis, COVID-19 response and vaccination, child injury prevention, antimicrobial resistance, among others. Currently, Joey works with a Singapore-based not-for-profit global health organization as Chief of Staff to the Executive Director. Joey received a government scholarship for his medical training from the University of the Philippines as well as for his Masters of Public Management major in Health Systems and Development from the Development Academy of the Philippines. He received a Fulbright scholarship for his Master in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Joey is currently Treasurer and member of the Board of Trustees of PSPHP. He worked closely with the Executive Committee, Secretariat, relevant committees, and the rest of the PSPHP Board to maintain positive financial health for the organization. He was also the founding Secretary-General from 2018-2021.
Strategic Plan of Action
- Guiding the PSPHP’s growth as it becomes an increasingly significant and relevant voice in the Philippine public health space
- Creating more and diverse opportunities for PSPHP members for individual professional development, specifically avenues to implement projects, conduct research, and gain expertise in public health and its sub-tracks
- Ensuring operational and management needs of the organization are met and aligned with the growing technical portfolio
- Helping build sustainable partnerships with local and international partners to advance the science and practice of public health
- Strengthening subnational chapters, advocating for more activities outside of Metro Manila, and providing avenues to expand the network of current and prospective PSPHP members
